Totem poles
Recent Works by Katie Netley
My recent works focus on exploring the influences of totemic tribal artefacts—blending tradition with modern expression. I love working closely with my clients, diving deep into their ideas to translate them into one-of-a-kind totem pole sculptures.
These sculptures are weatherproof and ideal for outdoor spaces like gardens. Clients can customise the height, as each totem is made in sections for easy assembly.
One of my favourite projects is creating family tree totems, with each section representing a family member. Every part is personalised, and they stack together to form a stunning visual narrative. Often, I finish the totem with a beautiful flower motif at the top for that perfect touch.
Let’s create something unique, together.

Made to Tell.
Inspired by the rich heritage of totemic tribal artefacts, my recent works focus on bringing stories to life through bespoke totem pole sculptures. Each sculpture is a conversation between me and my clients, where we translate their visions into art that tells their unique story.
Whether it's a family tree totem, where each section represents a loved one, or a personal commission, these sculptures are designed to make an impact. They’re weatherproof and perfect for outdoor settings, with customisable heights built in sections for easy assembly. The family tree totems are particularly special, with each section carefully personalised, creating a beautiful, meaningful centerpiece for your garden.
Private Commissions
I love working on private commissions, crafting bespoke totem poles that reflect the essence of my clients' ideas, stories, and inspirations. Each piece is a true reflection of those who commission it.
Inspiration
“My exuberance and zest for life shine through in every piece I create. Vibrant colours, representations of organic life, and voluptuous forms are all central to my work. I'm fascinated by global cultures, the symbolism of rituals, and the geometry of recurring patterns. These elements blend into my sculptures, bringing together the significance of dreams and the beauty of nature.”
Bring your story to life with a sculpture that stands out. Let’s create something extraordinary together.

FAQs
Are the memorials weather resistant?
Memorials are made of stoneware clay and are frost resistant.
How long does it take to commission a memorial?
Commissioning a memorial can take several months and ideally is not a process which should be hurried.
How much does it cost?
A simple memorial (e.g. cremation tablet) can cost as little as a few hundred pounds, but a headstone with a lot of detail a will be a few thousand pounds. Costs can vary for a number of reasons: the complexity of the design, the size, shape and type and the installation requirements. Katie will be happy to discuss ideas and provide a guideline of costs without obligation.
How do I decide upon the wording for the memorial?
When considering a memorial having an idea of what you want to say can be a very positive way of starting to think about the design, yet for many people settling on the words is one of the most difficult decisions. There is no universal formula.
How often will I need to visit the artist?
Kate will visit you before a drawing is made. This will enable you to discuss your ideas fully. Very importantly, you will be able to ensure that you are in tune with one another’s ideas and that you both feel that you can work together. There is sometimes the opportunity for the family to add a small amount of carving themselves. Children particularly benefit from feeling that they are leaving their own ‘secret’ message on the clay.
Can I pay in installments?
On commissioning a deposit is required, followed by one further payment, with the final payment being made after the memorial has been set into place.
